Laser Core of Knowledge

Training provided will cover all aspects of the ‘core of knowledge’ defined in the MHRA guidance on the safe use of lasers, intense light source systems and LEDs in medical, surgical, dental and aesthetic practices. The training company are approved by the British Medical Laser Association and meet the requirements of the Care Quality Commission for those required to register under the Health and Social  Care (Health Standards) Act 2003.

Basics of Lasers and Intense Light Sources
terminology, characteristic features of laser radiation and intense light sources, types of lasers

Interaction with tissue
thermal and non-thermal interactions, effect of different wavelengths

Hazards of lasers and ILS
laser and lamp hazard classes, eye and skin hazards, non-optical hazards, laser smoke, laser and ILS incidents

Standards, Legistration and Guiadance
British and European Standards, Care Standards Act, MHRA guidance, safety management, Local Rules, role of Laser Protection Supervisor

Practical Laser and ILS Safety
risk assessment, engineering and administrative controls, personnel protective equipment, quality assurance, equipment management

A certificate will be issued upon completion.
