Applications of Q-Switch Nd: Yag Lasers
Tattoo removal is the major function of the Q-Switched Nd: YAG Laser although it also has good effect on other pigmented lesions.
Although Q-switched lasers can be used to treat pigmented lesions there is a danger that you may inadvertently treat a skin cancer or melanoma and Eclipse Lasers advise is to leave pigmented lesions to qualified and registered Dermatologists.
1. Permanent make-up
In theory this can be removed, but not recommended due to the type of pigment colours used and the areas needing treating are on the face and around the eye.
2. Nevus of Ota
Nevus of Ota is always on the face. It can be very difficult to remove, but can be treated with the Q-Switched Nd: YAG.
3. Speckle Removal
If there are several freckles on the face the Q-Switched Nd: YAG Laser has very good results to remove them.
4. Birthmark
Just like Nevus of Ota, birthmark is also very difficult to remove. Because they are endogenous pigment.
** DO NOT treat by laser if the birthmark protrudes the surface of the skin or has hair. **
5. Sun Spots – Age Spots
Can be treated but not worth the risk due to the danger you may inadvertently treat a skin cancer or melanoma, even GP’s get this wrong!
5. Hair Removal
This is not a major function, but small areas of hair can be removed with this type of laser
Suitable training will be necessary to apply these types of treatment which is not covered by Eclipse Lasers training, but do remember, some treatments and processes are best left to medical professionals.
