The energy myth . . .

So you are looking for a Tattoo Removal Laser, and you think (or you are advised) that it makes sence to buy a machine with the highest power possible right?
Looking at the many many machines available you soon discover it is a minefield with so many available, so you narrow it down to the machines that offer high energy such as 1300mJ, 1400mJ or even 1500mJ.

Well i would bet you that none of these machines exceed 1000mJ, and i am pretty sure that the majority will not even reach 1000mJ, how can i say this, easy, it is not possible to reach this type of power in this type of machine with the technology available, especially not with a single YAG bar.

Maximum power will be between 300mJ and up to a maximum of up to 900mJ, only with a double YAG bar will this type of machine reach any higher.

This high energy is not needed, 300mJ to 500mJ is effective for removal of tattoo pigment with our lasers, and you do not need any higher.
Basically many manufacturers adjust the display to show higher energy to satisfy the clients demand, as the machine is effective and works they can display whatever energy they want on the screen, because they know it will be enough energy for successful treatment.

Look at it another way, two of the 'high end' systems currently available.

Lynton Lumina

  • Maximum energy at 1064nm = 500mJ
  • Maximum energy at 532nm = 250mJ

Candela Tri-Vantage

  • Maximum energy at 1064nm = 400mJ
  • Maximum energy at 532nm = 200mJ

Both of these machines retail in the 30 to £40,000 bracket, yes they are 'multi platform' but it's the Q-Switched Nd: YAG specifications we are looking at here, which are not especially high, but they are effective, the energy is high enough to penetrate and fragment the ink, you do not need higher energy.

So, don't believe the hyped up energy levels some manufacturers and/or distributors are claiming.
